9 for 2009: Fashion Forecast for Manila

As the year 2008 draws to a close, I reckoned that instead of doing a trend round up, I’d rather highlight the ones we can keep an eye on come 2009. This year has been a whirlwind of trend after trend and I’ve noticed that most of the fashionistas were well aware and in tuned with them all. it has been a fun year in fashion, wouldn’t you agree?
Though some may have grown tired of keeping up with them trends, we just can’t help learning of new ones and …

Meet Samantha

Twas never intentional. Though, it would’ve been expected that I’d name each and every pair ( remember Becky? Marni? Lauren?) that’s part of my shoe collection (the geeky side of being a shoe lover) but I never really gotten around to doing it until I started noticing that they seem to come with it. Names, I mean.

Meet Samantha. And she’s my own little version of the gladiator sandal. Er, you would mistake her to have come from that shoe family, yea?

It can be a little cliche-ish but what the heck, eh? Plaids are one of the trends that’s making a comeback (at least for the Western Fall season). It’s a bit preppy but it’s pretty nonetheless.
I’ve never bought an item from Maldita, though, I do find their selection sleek and, sometimes, bordering on the cosmopolitan work wear sort but there are notable items that’s easy to style into a more casual urban outfit. For the relatively younger fashionistas (note: ones still in school!), if minis are acceptable then by all …

I’ve never been to Bangkok to do some of that infamous shopping sprees, so, here’s what I do to deal — let the clothes come to me. Heh. One of my online contacts recently came back from a trip there and with truckload of fashion goodies that she’s more than willing to unload, no less. I jumped at the chance to browse through the options and settled on a couple but I have a personal favourite, it’s the Gray Tunic.
Tunics are quite hot nowadays and I can take a guess …

Sequined Clutch by Topshop
AND not to mention, extravagantly styled!
I’m smitten. From the sparkling sequins and colourful mosaic-like (only because the colours remind me of mosaics) design to its asymmetrical shape and the fact that it’s a clutch. A clutch! Damn the function. I shop for form today! I absolutely adore clutches. Oh, let the fashion gods favour me and let this beautiful bag be available in the Topshop stores here in Manila.
I. Must. Have. It.
Well, after I get my hands on that Luisa Jeans designed by Penélope & Mónica Cruz …

In keeping up with the trend of metallics and grays, I’ve decided to feature a recent outfit I put together, worn during the Mrs. Fields Cookie Café Launch held last Tuesday, 21 August 2007 over at their Manila Pavilion branch, located on United Nations Avenue.
If you’re a regular, you’ve probably come across the post wherein I featured the Mango Tunic in Metallic Gray I’m wearing in the photo. I decided to give you a glimpse of one of the styling ideas I have for the said top and here’s how …

Here’s another trend that’s been under your noses, the Wide Leg Pants. Didn’t see it coming, eh?
The Skinny has been around for around two years now and, yea, its re-introduction to the fashion masses is a breath of fresh air. It may not be welcomed by all but, hey, we really can’t help it if it’s one of the most discriminating piece of garment that a woman will encounter. One can only sigh in resignation.
Good news then. Now, we’re looking at the opposite extreme of the Skinny. LOL. However, I …
