Fringe and ombre; crossing the short and long hair threshold

It can be a trying time as you wait for your hair to grow out. It’s certainly true for me. I can be impatient and frustrated with the state of my hair as I try watch it grow longer at a speed slower than a turtle. I’d toy with the idea of cutting it short again at one point then change my mind the next. I just knew I needed to change my hairstyle, a small mercy to my boredom. If there’s anything about this matter that became clearer is the emphasis on one of the drawbacks of cutting my hair short, it will take a good couple of years before I get back to my desired length again. In those 2 years, I can expect the awkward hair length. It’s that length in between that drives me mad. On top of that fundamental fact, I’ve, sort of, gotten used to a non-blah hairstyle, esp for the last couple years.

Just to show you what I mean by that, here’s a quick recap of the more recent hairstyles/haircuts I’ve sported:

2010/2011

Simple enough, yes, but it was the longest I’ve ever let my hair to grow into.

2011/2012

Ah, the period I had permed my hair — digital perm love.

2012/2013

After over a year of gorgeous curls, ’twas then a drastic change to a short, ombre hairstyle.

And now, right before the year 2013 ends — crossing the short and long hair threshold — I opted for a heavy fringe and kept the ombre hair colour as I prep for 2014 — yea, there’s a huge possibility that there’ll be a change in hairstyle again, haha.

I reckon my choice isn’t revolutionary in the hairstyle department but I know it will pacify my inner hair demons. It took me a while to settle on an “inbetween-er” hair cut that I can be happy with (think months!). Incidentally, last time I had a heavy fringe was back in 2007. LOOK!

Anyway, I’m sure my present fringed hairstyle will keep me distracted for a while. Plus it doesn’t hurt that it’s easy to maintain!

How about you, ladies? How do you handle that period in between short and long hair as you let it grow out?

xo,
Sasha <3

  1. Color change can always help tide over my impatience when growing out hair :D

    Love the hair! :)

    • It does? Cool. I did consider it at first, too. But, in the end, I thought my hair needed more or better yet I did, haha! Thanks, Lia! It’s great to find you here. I appreciate it! :D

  2. Looks great, sis! Makes me want to do something about my hair. I’m so bored with this mid-length phase! :p

    • I thought dyeing your hair purple was a step, haha. But, yea, you know me, I’m an enabler so it’s no surprise that I’m telling you to go do it! Go crazy bold! ;-) Looking forward to your soon-to-be new hairstyle! And, yes, good to know you like mine. Thanks, sis! :D

  3. Love it! That stage always bums me out. I just wear it in ponytails or buns because I’m lazy. Hahaha! when i stop being lazy, I add layers when I don’t want to cut off length and change hair color with streaks.

  4. Pretty interesting suggestions. Thanks for sharing them with us, Alexa! And happy to know you like my new haircut. :-)
