StyleManila Meets: Mike & Charlie of Island Media Asia

“Oh, we like to tag along.”

And tag along is what they did one random Tuesday: Sab and I with our friend Mayi showed Charlie and Mike how far random can take us.

If you don’t know yet, Island Media Asia is group of seven local halfies (half Pinoy, half Caucasian) known for their viral Youtube videos, taking it in the streets of Manila, showing what our country is all about. Brave and funny souls. Best video for me would have to be Foreigners Selling Balut in the Philippines)— Balut or Die! Always interesting to have Balikbayans, pinoys abroad, and visitors try this Fear Factor delicacy.

Now it was StyleManila’s turn to take these boys to some of our favorite spots in town. Next time hopefully, we get to hang with the rest of the crew!

MEET MIKE
Michael McDonnell
Half Bicolano, Half Canadian

SM: How do you describe your style?
Simple. I’m a t-shirt and jeans kinda guy. I like feeling comfortable when I go out, and I find that simplicity is the key. I like to fit right in and just blend in with the crowd, it might not be so unique, but feeling right at home wherever I go is the best feeling.

SM: What’s your favorite fashion store?
Hmmm… when I do go, I frequent the usual places like Bench, Penshoppe, and Folded and Hung, but I do enjoy going to cheap places as well, I like filling up my wardrobe with clothes I can easily get dirty in.

SM: What do you always carry with you (aside from our phone)?
My semi-automatic gun, we live in such a busy and chaotic world that it helps me get focused, I bring it wherever I go. And by semi-automatic gun I mean my planner, it’s really instrumental in helping me be organized.

SM: Name a favorite item of clothing/accessory in your closet right now.
It would have to be my bracelets, I love collecting bracelets from different places when I travel, and I love wearing quite a few at a time. One of my favourites right now was given from a friend, it’s an Ifugao necklace that means wealth/fertility… the fertility part I’m not too keen about, but nonetheless it’s an awesome neckless.

SM: Which clothes from what decade or era do you think should make a comeback?
Hmm… loin clothes from the cave man age! That way there’s no hassle of looking for what to wear, I hate spending so much time looking at my wardrobe and not liking the selection. With loin clothes, just put one of the few that you own, and blam, you’re good to go. Cave man times count as an era, right?

SM: You would never be caught dead wearing a ____________.
A turncoat, just like what detectives wear. Also, can be easily mistaken as a creep especially when matched with a pair of stalker glasses.

SM: What kind of outfit do you usually like on a girl?
So many! Girls just look naturally sexy in clothes, they have this natural sense of style that men have to acquire. But if I had to pick one, tank top and jeans. Simple, yet very sexy, catches my attention all the time.

SM: Top 5 clothing staples?
Black boots, aviator shades, basketball shorts, long sleeves, and a scarf. Not worn all at the same time of course. =D
