Surf October: The Circle Hostel Now in La Union

stoked
adj. To be “stoked” is to be completely and intensely enthusiastic, exhilarated, or excited about something. [Urban Dictionary]

Stoked. A commonly used surfing term which I tried explaining to a friend but could only manage “That really huge grin that you can’t seem to wipe off your face after earning a wave or just from having fun out there”. By earning I mean braving the waves and paddling your little heart out there ’til your lungs explode and you actually get to ride that wave. I personally call it my HAPPY-I DIDN’T-DIE-TODAY feeling/face. And yep, my last weekend spent in the The Circle Hostel’s soft opening has still left me grinning like a fool.

An ‘art attack’ weekend session as part of the mini dry-run of the place and my friend and owner Ziggie’s birthday celebration, it was awesome to be part of something that signifies a birth, a christening, or simply a start of a new and exciting endeavor. Like a different kind of stoke as you witness a shiny little experiment coming together. This second home in the surfing capital of the north? About time, folks.

“I’ve got meat in my hand and a beer in another. I’m happy!” – the very words to capture the weekend that was, as exclaimed by my NFF, (that’s New Found Friend for you) Megan. If there’s one thing you don’t say no to or must make time for, it’s a weekend away from the city.. with your surfboard, with good/positive/crazy company, grilled kebabs, aaand some homemade mojitos!

See you at the Circle!

The Circle Hostel is located in Sitio Liwliwa, San Felipe, Zambales
