Words weaved into an interesting read that would engage you in a dance that might offer a momentary flight from function and utility; makes looking up at a sky full of stars a reasonable activity. Indeed, the inspiration to egg you on to chase your dreams can be elusive but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. It’s true — life is too short to beat around the bush. Find that voice and resolve to express the things that matter and, yes, even the things that may seem trite. It has been said that there are treasures in the proverbial dime-store. Let the universe surprise you.
Tell us a little bit about you. How old are you and where do you live? Where and what did you study? Type of work, interests, etc.
I’m a 27 year old broker from Makati. I studied Business Management in Entrepreneurship in De La Salle University – Manila. I am currently finishing my thesis to complete my MBA in Ateneo Graduate School of Business. I’ve been with the real estate industry for more than 5 years now and recently passed the broker’s exam (along with Eena!). I’m working as a Sales Manager, but I also have experience in Marketing and Business Development.
Traveling is probably my biggest luxury! There is something about being in a different place, experiencing their culture, meeting different kinds of people and trying out authentic food. I also love the planning part. I also love researching about a place, making an itinerary/schedule and sticking to it.
I’m drawn towards interesting light fixtures, sunsets, poems, the beach, and stars.
Pick 1 word that best describes you. Why?
Writing about my feelings is one of the reasons why I started blogging. It started out as a rant to no one in particular to writing about what I bought, wore or like. I was surprised that I got a lot of responses from people I don’t know. Writing for myself is one thing, but having someone read your mundane posts is another.
I make it a point to write/show what I feel. Life is too short to beat around the bush.
What keeps you busy these days? Name 3 most important people/things in your life right now.
1. Building my career. I am first and foremost a professional. I started working October 2004, even before my graduation march and I cherished every moment of being an employee. I like the independence and the fact that I work to earn my own money. One of my goals is to grow in a company, develop my skills and at the same time be an asset to them.
2. Saving for my future. I am at that point in my life where I bookmark wedding ideas, in hopes of maybe someday I can use them. No, I am not obsessed. I’m just at that age where I want to have a decent future and to be able to provide for my future family. Aside from starting a family, I want to put up my own business and all these involve a lot of spending. It never is too early to start saving.
3. Family/Friends. Or to be general, the people in my life. I make it a point to spend time with my family and friends. My job is 90% dealing with people and to keep me sane, I need to have an actual conversation that doesn’t involve work/sales or crunching numbers.
What do you love about fashion? What is it that inspires you?
I love how fashion has no boundaries. We live in an era that even trash bags worn as dresses are accepted. I love how with fashion, people can express themselves freely. It’s a form of expression and no one can limit or censor you (unless maybe if it’s indecent).
I watch a lot of TV, so I get inspiration from my favorite personalities/characters.
What is style to you?
Style is such a broad subject. In terms of fashion (and in my opinion), style is something that you conceptualize and then create. It has a lot to do with your mood, character/personality and what inspires you.
Which of your interests/hobbies influence your personal style? Describe your personal style.
I am very laid back and I stick to the basics. I’m very practical and simple, so as much as possible I want something that I can mix and match my old stuff with.
My style probably has a lot to do with the fact that I love going to gigs and having a chill night with friends. I also love experimenting with makeup, which makes me a teeny bit girly.
Give us your favourite undiscovered designer/shop.
It’s not designer but if you look hard enough, there are awesome and affordable finds in Landmark. I also like checking out Tango, The Ramp and a lot of online shops!
Favourite Fashion designers?
Are you a shoe, clothes, or accessory person? Why?
Definitely a shoe person. I like how I can still wear my 7.5s even if i gain weight!
Say hello to Sab Calayan, a lady with an unperturbed air of economical sensibilities and an insatiable appetite for life’s gratuitously beautiful affairs. She has a mind and a pen to introduce you to the secrets of hanging loose and being on the edge when and where it matters.
If there’s one thing you’d want people to remember you by, as a fashion blogger, what is it? What sort of legacy would you want to leave behind on StyleManila.com?
I really don’t know if I have enough expertise in fashion to be called a fashion blogger. I love writing though and I’m passionate about what I write. I can write about fashion because it’s one of the things i’m interested in. I want to make people laugh and to make them curious enough to check out whatever it is I have to say.
What can people expect from you as its blogger? Give us an idea of the whats and the hows.
My writing is triggered by emotions and passion. I usually talk/write about what I love and it involves a lot of traveling, architecture, fashion, makeup and food. I shop a lot and I’m constantly on a hunt for a good bargain, so the readers can expect a lot of my affordable finds.
What are your thoughts on the Manila fashion scene?
It’s definitely developing. With the help of technology and the abundance of fashion bloggers, people now have more outlet, more inspiration and more courage to try out something that they normally would not have dared.
I certainly am looking forward to what Sab has to say on anything fashion, beauty, and shopping. It’s a pleasure to welcome her to the roster of contributors here on Style Manila.
