I remember it was only a few days before I found out I was attending an event hosted by PETA was I admiring (and slightly cuddling) a cute furry pencil case my friend Sab had recently purchased from Saizen.  The moment she showed it to me I wanted to scream “Its so furry, I wanna diiiiiie!”. I just realized that that would probably be the exact same expression PETA could use whenever they spot people wearing animal fur donned in the streets. Thank goodness the pencil case was made of nylon fur (and looked undeniably fake as it was pink and shiny). Have I always been aware of these social/environmental issues? Very much so. Have I been in any way participative? Sadly, no. And I know there are no excuses not to be. Without having to search it in the interwebs, the mere idea of fur being stripped from animals to be worn as clothing have always irked me and finding out the degree of animal cruelty in the process has challenged me to further support this campaign.
Taking it one step further, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has recently collaborated with STRIP Ministry of Waxing, the world’s first concept wax shop from Singapore (and has now branches in London, New York, Jakarta, Hongkong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, and now in Manila). The bold campaign is aptly entitled “UNFURGIVABLE”, underlining their serious stand against the use of animal fur on skin, accessories, bags, and clothing. Known for having the best and fastest quality Brazilian wax (under 15 min!) , STRIP Manila will be donating Php50 to PETA for every Brazilian wax treatment. Hair free towards fur-free. I can’t think of a better offer.
The launch held at Prive last Thursday, January 12, 2012 showcased a fashion show by Wanderlust and a photo exhibit by Miguel Miranda with today’s most captivating young models and personalities including Phoemela Barranda, Jasmin Curtis Smith, Joey Mead, Ornusa Cadness, The Boys Night Out, etc. I was also delighted to see my friend, Nina Estacio of Glitterati, to be part of the exhibit (congratulations, Nins!).
