The Welder Launch

“Fast track to year 2075 and imagine a world where time and space travel is part of daily human existence. That imagined gleaming future is now distilled in a uniquely designed timepiece. Welder, the only watch brand in the market that projects the future in the present, is in our midst.”

Interesting concept, yes? That’s exactly what got me intrigued when I received the invite in the mail a few weeks ago. It said that I was to go to Salon de Ning in Manila Peninsula Hotel to witness the launch of this very brand of watch, which happened last Friday, 25 November 2011.

Why Welder? Welder represents “the welding of emotions between people, the welding of time and space and the welding of the present to the future.”

Welder is inspired by the future. The brainchild of Italo Fontana of the U-boat watch fame, Welder’s strong robotic and industrial elements seem straight out of a science-fiction movie. Designed to be the watch of the future, Welder looks like it plans to link reality with what some folks imagine the future to be.

The brand has several collections. K22 is the first collection with steel matte finishes. The watches in this collection are water-resistant up to 10 ATM (ATMospheres) and its face measures 50 mm. K22 has two superimposed dials, butterfly buckle and comes on a variety of colored rubber straps; it’s the more playful series among the Welder collection.

The most popular collection, K24, is round-shaped, has superimposed dials, with steel or black cases. This collection has a distinctly heavy duty look from a notable three-dimensional design and layered effects.

K28 watches are investment pieces that are regarded as valued, functional and stylish. They bear a sense of exclusivity with materials not used in any other collection.

Other Welder collections that will be introduced to the country include the K25, K27, K29, K30, K31, K32, and K33.

Here’s a quick look at some of the Welder watches (click on the thumbnail for a larger view):

I (together with Trisha and later joined by Hannah) capped off the night (post-event and celebrating T’s last weekend before heading back to the US) at Resorts World as suggested by one of Welder’s ambassadors, Rovilson Fernandez, during our quick tête-à-tête at the Welder Event at Manila Pen.

Yes, I can be such a groupie (see an old photo, but double the hunk-ness) sometimes, haha! I wish Trisha was able to give me the hi-res copy of this photo. Sniff.
