Ever since I first heard that Stella McCartney collaborated with adidas back in 2005, I’ve been following collection after collection. I’ve always been the athletic sort, playing sports like Basketball, Track, and recently, Badminton. These have greatly influenced my interest in activewear. I’m actually hoping that the activewear trend will gain more traction, allowing access to more selections
Launched last September 2008, adidas brings us a collection which tries to provide for all the needs of a modern woman. “Style meets performance is crucial for women today, and I’ve tried to address this in my most recent collection. Remembering you’re alive is key, health is wealth!” says Stella McCartney.
The new Spring/Summer 09 range continues to re-define and challenge traditional sport silhouettes with the new collection featuring sheer, lightweight performance fabrics and constructed design features taking inspiration from Atlantic sailing adventures in the new Gym Studio range and ornate English Edwardian petticoats and nightwear in the prints and cuts of the Tennis line. This season, the best-selling Running range mixes energetic and bold block colours with sheer, futuristic lightweight fabrics with drawstring detail to create gathering and volume for stylish, sophisticated silhouettes.
The Gym collection is split into three (3) segments: Studio, Dance, and Yoga.
Features elegant feminine silhouettes, constructed design features, rope detail trims and ultra lightweight performance fabrics inspired by Atlantic sailing adventures to create a laid-back layered look.
: CU Studio Jacket
Takes inspiration from vintage lace and lingerie; with sophisticated patterns and feminine detailing, intricate smocking details, delicate trimmings and stunning perforated laser cut patterns and melange fabrics.
: Ballerina shoe
Tibetan and Mongolian influences playing an important role in the design inspiration for the season; highlights include silhouettes inspired by men’s vintage shirts, long johns and vests with intricate woven trims, handcrafted inspired stitching, and soft, tactile fabrics for maximum comfort.
: Yoga Embellished Tee featuring ornate Tibetan-inspired embroidery
Features smart tailoring and men’s military detailing combined with elegant, soft tulip sleeved polos creating a sharp but ultra feminine look.
: CU Golf Printed Tee
: Running Performance Degrade 3/4 Tight
Inspired by the playful unique twists of Stella’s own line; combining feminine rouching and gathering, delicate lace appliques and elegant fluted sleeves. Ornate English lingerie and vintage nightwear contrast with jersey and cotton shorts reminiscent of men’s long johns and empire fits.
: A pretty empire fit dress featuring lavish Edwardian embroidery and vintage lingerie-inspired details
Inspired by corsetry and 1920s beach wear; mesh inserts create a sculpted, graphical body shape mixed with low cut leg pants, gathering and shorts reminiscent of bloomers. The playful colour palette combines flamboyant summer-y patterns with handcrafted finishing and embroidery.
: CU Swim Short and Swim Performance Suit
Features three (3) apparel pieces made from 100% organically grown cotton and footwear using sustainable materials which achieve the best rating within the adidas grading guidelines for environmentally friendly materials. THe uniquely “natural” coloured apparel is ideal for warming up as well as cooling down and can be easily worn to and from the gym.

The following photo set shows all the right reasons why I love the adidas by Stella McCartney collection. If you haven’t had the chance to see her work, here’s your chance to see for yourself:
Along with the Gym Studio, Tennis, and Running collections, the range offers: Golf, Gym Yoga, Gym Dance, Swim, and Coverups. They hit the retail stores last February 2009.
With the growing popularity of a lifestyle geared towards fitness, this collection definitely gives fashionistas room to satisfy their style needs as they go about their respective sport and exercise routines. I actually fell in love with several items I saw at the Adidas store in Power Plant. I had to hold on to my wallet real tight that night esp when I spotted the bags and that fabulous jacket and pair of shorts! Gawd. Must. Not. Spend.
Report on the Adidas by Stella McCartney Launch held last week at their store in Power Plant Mall, Rockwell will follow shortly.
