False Eyelashes 101 Plus A Review

Lash Kit, Eyes Lips Face e.l.f. - Falsies, False Eyelashes | Style Manila - Fashion, Beauty, Shopping, Manila Street FashionWhy is it that women have this fascination when it comes to lash length? I’m trying not to generalise it but since I, personally, am fascinated and I’ve met quite a number whom have voiced out their longing, I can’t help but deduce that it is shared by most if not all. Personally, longer lashes means prettier eyes. Why do you think they’re marketing mascaras as lash extending and such? It has become a known fact.

And since we weren’t born with it, we turn to certain beauty tools that will help us in this department. Like I said, one option would be to go the mascara route but we all know that it can only go so far. Enter the use of false eyelashes aka falsies.

Before you read any further, let it be known that I’m no expert in this but I reckon, since I did get a couple of queries on how I’ve managed to do mine, it’d be great to share some tips on how to put on false eyelashes.

Tools you need: Lash kit (includes the adhesive), Tweezer, Toothpick (optional), Eye liner, Lash separator (optional), Mascara (optional), Lash curler (optional)

Step one. Prep the lid. Do the necessary cleansing and moisturising. Personally, I apply my foundation and concealer before I put on the falsies.

Step two. Hold up the falsies to your lash line to do a bit of measuring then trim the lashes to make the perfect fit. Try to trim it lash by lash to avoid mistakes. Lashes are usually longer on the outer corner of the eye.

Step three. Squeeze the adhesive onto the falsies. Let it dry for a few seconds before applying it onto your lash line. This will prevent the falsies from running amuck.

Step four. Use the tweezers to apply the falsies onto the lash line. Try to make sure that it’s as close to your natural lash line as possible. You can use a toothpick to align the falsies properly if needed.

Step five. With your fingers, hold the falsies down on both ends for half a minute, at least. Allow the adhesive to set so it won’t come off when you lift your fingers. This will entirely depend on the sort of adhesive you used.

Step six. Fill the gaps with an eye liner: liquid, gel, or pencil.

Suggestions: You can use a lash separator to help combine the falsies with the natural lashes. You can also use a mascara to do this. However, some falsies are too thick for mascaras but if you decide to use one anyway, make sure to just apply one thin coat, otherwise, you’ll be suffering from lash clumps. Curl if needed.

Note: It’s wise to remove the falsies before you sleep to avoid infections and such. Apply makeup remover (cleansing oil, preferably) over and gently remove them to avoid plucking out your natural lashes. If you wish to re-use them, stay away from mascaras and clean the lashes with your makeup remover (set to dry) before re-use.

Sample of how mine looked, esp put on for a busy working Wednesday. I had used the Eyes Lips Face (e.l.f.) lash kit I recently bought (2nd kit — you can check out the first time I wore them falsies). Love how I don’t need a lash curler for this set I bought. I esp like how natural the lashes feel and they’re relatively easy to put on. But I admit that I had failed on my first try but I did manage to successfully put on one of the falsies. However, since I was pressed with time, I quickly dropped in at my stylist’s salon so he can help finish the job. I guess I need more practice. Hehe.

A certain paparazzi decided to take a close up while cooling off at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Eastwood Mall. Yes, I was minding an unusually busy mobile phone and was doing my best not to get too self-conscious, hence, the look. LOL. Heh. Anyway, for my FOTD —

Thank god for the falsies. LOL. AND at least, this photo shows how my new MAC lippy looks like; for real, for real.

Anyway, if you folks have other tips to share on how to apply falsies (perhaps you have a special way of doing it apart from what I’ve already enumerated above), on how to keep them on, or perhaps a great place to buy lash kits, DO SHARE! I’d surely appreciate it!

Does it hurt when you remove the falsies? I was thinking that the adhesive would hurt the skin.

    Mel: Heehee.

Jean: Mine didn’t. I reckon it depends on the sort of adhesive you’d use.

I bought my falsies at The Ramp, brand is e.l.f. (I did mention it in the post right?). The Php50 falsies, I hear, are available in Landmark.

I haven’t tried putting on falsies. I use the mascara, as I already have relatively thick eyelashes. However, I do have friends who are into falsies. What do you say about those that are said to be implanted?

  • Sasha Manuel (author) said:

Some thick lashes aren’t necessarily long, yea? Some falsies add length as well as volume, some are very costume-y in nature for a fun lash look and some are just after the length. With falsies on, you get double the effect you get with mascara without using one. Implants are another thing. Nothing against it, though. :)
