Dressing Up the Miss

When Aileen asked me a styling question via Plurk a while back, it had lingered till I can’t stand it anymore that I knew I had to write this post. She had asked for styling tips for teachers.

We all may remember our teachers for their wit and charm but never by their fashion sense unless it was totally off. For ones that fail to stick, well, it goes to show just how much effect they had. But, hey, I’d like to remember my profs fondly (ones that I do remember, that is LOL).

Anyway, going back on topic, what I would recommend is to wear White.

I know, I know. It’s a bit ambiguous. But I’d like to lay the groundwork for this one. The reason for choosing white is that it’s clean, safe, and great way to start off a look. It helps create a fresh image and will highlight your skin tone, hair and quite possibly the makeup you have on for the day, plus the accessories!

Then again, you may not be willing to go on an all-white outfit so I reckon you can start with outerwear like this scarf cardigan from Old Navy esp if the classroom has a/c. Texture from the scarf detail will make the outfit more interesting. But you have to find something else that looks similar, unless you can have someone from the US ship it to you.

Then there are classics like collared long-sleeved shirts like this one from Maldita priced at Php 1,199.00. Note the bib-cut and tab detail which makes it stand out from any other sort of long-sleeved shirt. This shirt will aid in creating a crisp and professional look. Collars often do that, yea?

Or perhaps on days you want to go for a bit of a romantic feel in your clothes, this ruffled neck top from My Little Dress may just do the trick.

So, I’m bending it a little and recommend this grey blouse from BAYO. It has this pea-coat effect that’s adorable. It’ll work well with pants and pencil (or full if you’re feeling a bit festive) skirts.

Then topping it off with a shoe suggestion, go for heeled loafers like this Pour La Victoire Loafer Heel from Urban Outfitters. This works well with the cardigan and pencil skirts with hems that go below the knee. Of course, it works with pants, too.

On the other hand, for you ladies who would prefer flats over heels, there are a lot of options out there that will work well with what I’m suggested above particularly because it’s quite easy to match pieces with white (see? another positive thing about the colour). And Aileen, I happen to know you own a pair of patent flats from Charles & Keith so that’s one pair you can wear!

As for accessories, you need not over do it. Tone down on accessories if you can. Wear something to match the simplicity of the look we’re trying to create, go for pearls!

There you go. Just simple style suggestions for the Miss. I hope your students will appreciate the effort you put into your outfits!
