The subject of this current fashion mania revolving around the now infamous bow headband popularised by Gossip Girl character, Blair Waldorf, has been raised by tv series fans and fashionistas alike. Admittedly, I wasn’t aware that this little hair accessory has taken Manila ladies for a spin since I have never watched a single episode of the tv series.
Over Plurk, Lia of Gadgenista.com had voiced her disdain over the current fad, stating that girls ought not to wear the headband just because it’s trendy; it wouldn’t automatically mean the headband will look good on them [paraphrased]. Note that this doesn’t mean she dislikes the headband altogether, in fact, she finds the look cute.
Personally, I agree with what Lia said. I know the headband is adorable and if Blair Waldorf can get away with it, I’m sure some will think that they could too BUT the reality is that not everybody can actually pull it off. Seriously. Though I’m a passionate advocate of being adventurous and experimental in your personal style, I do have to draw the line here and emphasize on the importance of wearing something that suits your personality, expressing your true identity, and not simply falling victim to trends and what nots. There’s a difference.
I implore that you guys give your personal style some thought. Don’t let the fashion define who you are, instead, define your own.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!!
I agree that we shouldn’t be fashion victims, but headbands can work for lots of us. There are such variations on the theme. Take a look at www.andreasbeau.com, as an example. Their headbands range from quietly elegant to adventurous. The best things about headbands is that they are a great look for most. We don’t all have to do the Blair thing!
i agree too. a lot of girls are looking like alices in wasteland. on blair the headband looks subtle because everything on her is stunning. on some of the girls i’ve seen, it just looks…. blatant and misplaced.
I actually agree.. not everyone can pull it of. Some girls just remind me of Cynthia Patag in Palibhasa Lalake!
Blairbands like those can be good to cover up bad hair days, but take it too far, and they can also make you look like Minnie Mouse.
those headbands look good on you if:
1. your age has not yet reached two digits
2. You’re cosplaying as Alice in Wonderland
3. you’re BLAIR WALDORF
i hate seeing blair bands on grown women. The plain headbands are fine, but the ones with the huge bows… painful.
