Philippine Fashion Week, Opening Ceremony

Courtesy of Artistry, my Tuesday night turned out to be interesting and entertaining. I attended the Opening Ceremony of the Philippine Fashion Week 2008 held at Hall 3 of SMX Convention Center.

Artistry is the official makeup of this year’s Philippine Fashion Week.

The night also celebrated PFW’s 11th year, hence the title of the night’s show, “GLIMPSES: A Dawn of a New Decade”. The Philippine fashion scene has been working on building a more global image, hoping to launch the distinct Filipino creativity to the rest of the world. A call was also sent out to support local designers as organisers reveal plans of working with government agencies in the future. One effort aims to boost the agriculture as the fashion industry supports local materials. Perhaps we can soon produce organic fashion, too. Very environmental, eh? We’ll soon see.
Shows lined up for the next 7 days [Day 2 to Day 8] are the following:

Luxe Wear Collection A
Premier Collection A
New Generation Collection
Luxe Wear Collection B
Premier Collection B
Design Fusion Collection
Visions & Trends Collection
Premier Collection C
Menswear Collection
Grand Allure Collection
Premier Collection D
Premier Collection E
Ready-to-Wear Collection
You can check here for the full fashion week schedule: Philippine Fashion Week 2008 Spring-Summer Collection, Official Show Schedule.

We can expect creations from local fashion designers like Norman Noriega, Gerry Katigbak, Pia Gladys Perey, Edgar San Diego, Jun Escario, Renee Salud, and Tippi Ocampo.
The Opening Ceremony saw Calcarrie models sashaying down the catwalk for Artistry then wearing glimpses of the creations of participating fashion designers. The night also celebrated the participation of model Charo Ronquillo, who has made a name for herself internationally, in this year’s fashion week.

Anyway, the Sarah Meier capped the fashion show and the entire event by declaring the Philippine Fashion Week open.

I know some are looking forward to more photos of the fashion show itself but I need to get some rest. I promise to finish the rest ASAP. Stay tuned!

It’s cool that there’s a Filipina that models abroad! Hope to see her in one of the major fashion week shows next year!
