The Bag that Rocked the Nation, The LV Speedy

LV Speedy

Okay. A bit of an exaggeration back there, so, I’ll limit it to Manila then.

I keep elbowing teh boyfriend whenever I’d spot someone carrying this particular handbag. I’ve actually lost count, so, you can only imagine his pain with all the elbowing. LOL. I kid. I kid.

The handbag I’m referring to is the Louis Vuitton Speedy. The Monogram Canvass type is quite common. Almost all of the people I’ve seen carry this sort, save one. The one in the photo is made of a different material. It’s the Monogram Mini Lin cotton and linen canvass (in Ebony), currently priced at $720.00. Teh boyfriend’s aunt got it at a fab deal in Paris, around $650.00, almost at the same price as the Monogram Canvass. Anyway, I believe that I should suggest that a certain someone who loves to own this bag, too, should fly off to Paris or get in touch with someone there.

I reckon the speedy is an ideal everyday bag. It’s very spacious and easy to lug around, not to mention, uber-stylish. It’s quite sad though that there are a lot of replicas flying about that you can only hope that half of the people I saw are carrying the real ones.

    Dear Sasha,

My stomach’s feeling funny after downing how many lattes (free here @ work) and a HUGE bowl of chicken teriyaki early last night.

I think this bag will make me feel bettah! :D
    Haunted,

    Phoebe

Are we booking you a flight to Paris then? First class? ;)

Heck I cannot even get myself a PhP 2600 PINK Elecom mouse! hahahaha

  • Sasha Manuel said:

Point taken. Dude, even if you can afford to buy the ticket, might as well buy the bag here. It’ll cost less than the ticket.

  • Phoebe said:

MISMO! ;) Wait…am seeing you later in Greenbelt right?!?! :x

  • Sasha Manuel said:

    Yes, ma’am! :D

    hi sasha!

hmmm, this particular LV bag doesn’t do much for me…i’m more of an LV epi leather type of gal hehe and like you said, dami kasi “copycats” around so kaka-turn off bilhin although I bought a madeleine pm LV bag late last year and to say “im in heaven” is an understatement! haha I wish I have all the moolah in the world to buy the entire epi and damier lines! hehe

    Ah… the LV Speedy!

Have a friend who went gaga over it and bought it in 2 designs.. Hahahahaha!!

  • Sasha Manuel said:

I wouldn’t be surprised. I know someone who has two herself. Told her I’ll steal one of them. LOL.

It might just be me but somehow, I find the design and color a little bit… monotonous? It always makes me wonder how come a lot of people lug this bag (fake or not) around coz I don’t find it attractive at all.

If I’m going to buy this bag it will probably be because of the quality and the brand (and perhaps the “classic” feel), not because I find it cute nor fun. But for $720? Err, no thanks.

  • Sasha Manuel said:

I’m not much of a bag shopper, I’m cool with buying a Php300 bag for all I care. LOL. Anyway, I can think of lots of other things I’d spend $700 on but I guess, like what you said, owning a Louis Vuitton bag does have its own allure. The Speedy just became so popular probably cuz people find its design timeless, what do you think? :)

  • ^Mau^ said:

    Definitely.

Unfortunately, there’s always something about designer stuff that’s attractive no matter how simple the design could be… and I hope I’m not just thinking about bragging rights here. :(

  • Sasha Manuel said:

I’m sure some may be in it for the image-upper. I think it’s innate in human beings to have a symbol of wealth, i.e. like how we display china in our homes. But we can also consider, like you said, that these designer items do offer quality, too. We may be paying a bit more for the name than the craftsmanship but, yea, I guess it’s how art is often valuated, a Van Gogh is still a Van Gogh and will be priced (and bought) as such even when it’s not that pretty. Did I make sense? :)

Hi Christine! (sorry, your comment got caught)

Grabe, I had to look it up so I’d know what you’re talking about and, boy, I’m not surprised that you love it! The Madeleine PM looks adorable! I think my mum has the Alma in red. The Damier line looks pretty sturdy and very urban. Great choices! :D

  • Star said:

Ahh pretty pretty! :D They’ll be eternally classic in my book. I saved up my hard-earned pennies for both of my Speedys (black Epi & Damier Azur). I feel frivolous items mean much more when you’ve “worked/sacrificed” for them but that’s me. :P
I’ve yet to buy a monogram version (even though I’m quite fond of it) because of all the fakes running about, it’s really unfortunate. In the end though, if you really really REALLY want it I say go for it, who cares what people (the boyfriend! lol) think? ;)

  • Christine said:

Hi Sasha — I wish I have moolah to buy an LV damier bag naman kaso baka the husband might divorce me na! haha

i am a bag-aholic for as long as i can remember. bag for every occasion baga.i’ve got about 35 bags (not all branded. I’d buy something because it’s cute but the LV was sort of my holy grail of bags hehe) now crammed into my walk-in wardrobe.

  • Lia said:

I wanted the speedy mono for my first LV bag, even if I’m aware that there are a lot of fakes out there, nasa nagdadala naman yan diba? ;) I also have the damier one na, and I love it to bits. I’m planning to get the white mini lin next, since the ebony is much too similar to the mono, mapapagalitan na ko, hahaha!

  • Sophie said:

Nakow, napapatingin nanaman ako sa eluxury.com. This is one of my 2008 resolutions - to get my first LV bag! :)

  • Sasha Manuel said:

Star: True. It does feel nice to own something you worked hard for. Sometimes, rewarding yourself that way is good. I really, REALLY have to determine whether or not I would want to spend that much. No one can stop me from getting what I want anyway. ;) (I’m still going to steal one of your speedies! Muahahaha. Kidding!)

Christine: Wow! 35 bags and a walk-in closet! Looks like you’re living a girl’s dream, eh? I wish I know how to shop for bags. Heh. I’m taking baby steps.
Lia: You can easily shove the receipt in their face if they dare question the authenticity of your bag. Kidding aside, the Mini Lin in Dune does look nice. Good choice! Grabe, andami nyo palang LV fans! :-o
Sophie: Just like one person I know who sent me an eluxury link earlier. Bag shopping online, eh? Hehe. Awesome goal! Make sure to let me check out the bag as soon as you get one, ok? (Para ma-inggit ako, LOL) :D

DOF setting F 1.8 If your P/S settings can be manually set or is built with such, you can make your background blurry. Usually on Macro mode. Hope that helps. :)

I like the mini-lin more than the mono and personally, I’d go for the bigger one. :D Lucky you!

  • Tessa said:

Love the bag but too many people have it that it turned me off. Lots of gross imitations on “stylish” arms that it makes me want to vomit. Ew.

  • maryjoyce said:

i agree that this is really the bag that most people carry around. used to count how many i see in a day, just for kicks.

  • Dianne said:

The real deal is fab! But I see a lot of fakes, and it really turns me off! I don’t have enough moolah to buy myself an LV (on my student allowance? no way!), but at least I don’t go around buying cheap versions of it. That’s patronizing ‘bag piracy’, know what I mean?

  • Lorelei said:

The LV bags are great but they’re really pricey… it’s just really a big turn off seeing all those fake ones though… it strips off the real one of some class…

It’s so common, my ex is embarrassed to use it. Nice bag nevertheless.

  • tina said:

I love the classic LV monogram leather. I’m not into designer bags kasi so there’s less motivation for me to save up for a bag. I like big bags and i make them “harabas” so it will be a risk if u buy an expensive designer bag. I’m not into designer bags because when I was growing up my mom had vintage Gucci’s, LV’s and Chanel’s from my lola and my mom was giving me the idea that it was somehow a status symbol if you have that kind of bag. The expensive classic bag that I have is the Ralph Lauren green and blue plaid speedy and bucket bag. But since there are A LOT of replicas out there, it’s disheartening na to buy a real one. I can just imagine how those women feel if they have the authentic bag and see another woman using a fake one. I actually get turned off when I go to Greenhills and see those bags. A friend of mine bought her LV in Greenhills for 1,500 (from 2,500) she was so proud that she was able to haggle that much, but what she didn’t realize is that it’s kinda “nakaka-hiya” to use something that you know is fake… Sorry it’s so long! first time! haha!
