From Skinny to Wide, Are You Ready?

Here’s another trend that’s been under your noses, the Wide Leg Pants. Didn’t see it coming, eh?

The Skinny has been around for around two years now and, yea, its re-introduction to the fashion masses is a breath of fresh air. It may not be welcomed by all but, hey, we really can’t help it if it’s one of the most discriminating piece of garment that a woman will encounter. One can only sigh in resignation.

Good news then. Now, we’re looking at the opposite extreme of the Skinny. LOL. However, I reckon it will still prove to be a challenge for some since I really wouldn’t recommend it to short-legged individuals or extremely wide-hipped woman. It will definitely make you look shorter than you ought.

I’ve been searching for the right pair but to no avail, I’m still stuck at that state. I’m simply keeping myself occupied with my own pairs that are semi-wide denims, flared dark denims and faded, distressed flared jeans. It was back in 2000 when I last owned a pair of wide leg denims. Twas misconstrued to be a “hip-hop” garment. I say, not. Heh.

Last month, I had a strong urge to shop for a new pair of jeans and I started eyeing them wide-leg ones. Though it shouldn’t come as a surprise, really, since I’m quite partial to Topshop items, so, when I started looking for a pair, I turned to them. Check out my picks:

High Waist Wide Leg Jean
I’m not really favouring high waist jeans but the idea of it with wide legs created a vintage impression on me that I extremely liked. I imagine it would look great on funky casual days that I would sometimes want to indulge myself in. I’d probably wear it with checked or striped mod blouses and simple flip-flops.

Gloria Jean
I found this shade of blue old school. I like how it reminds me of how jeans should look like except for the pockets, of course.

K Jean
I simply love the faded effect. It has that worn-out look that I like in my jeans, hopefully it’s softer, too — seemingly like a pair you’ve worn for days. Ugh. I know the smell might be a huge turn off but I like wearing jeans that aren’t fresh off the laundry, if you know what I mean.

All three jeans have wide legs. I like this cut because it doesn’t limit movement. That’s why I like it on casual days when comfort is top-most priority. The wide leg pant style is leaning towards a more casual and urban look. If you’re not sure with how you should style it, tread with caution. Hehe.

No one said anything about Skinnies going out of style. I just happen to think that they’ll have to share the limelight now. :)

Nah. All the magazines I’ve been coming across are saying skinnies will be out soon. Again, nooooooooo!! LOL.

In my book, personal style still wins over opinion of any fashion magazine. I don’t rely on them to tell me what can look good on me. There will always be room for skinnies in my wardrobe.

I can understand the resistance. LOL. No one’s twisting anyone’s arms! Perhaps people need time to get use to it. Believe, I hated them dungarees and they think it’s hot but, hell, I’d rather be caught dead than wear them.

I had a lot of wide-legged pairs waaaaaayyyy back in high school when they were still very popular, but they don’t fit me now. Besides, I love skinnies more.

I’m still into skinny jeans but I still keep my wide pants. I might still use them when it’s their season again.
